Parenting Education

Practical tools for parents raising strong-willed, challenging children.

Evidence-based. Interactive. Community-building. And it actually works.

  • Curriculum-based program with documented outcomes

  • Available at schools, churches, community centers, and our offices

Parenting a difficult child is one of the loneliest experiences a parent can have. Everyone seems to have advice. Nobody seems to actually understand. And the harder you try, the more it can feel like you’re failing.

Our Parenting Education program exists because parenting skills are exactly that — skills. They can be learned. They can be practiced. And when they’re taught in a structured, evidence-based environment alongside other parents who are going through the same thing, they tend to actually change the dynamic at home.

This is a 10-week, curriculum-based course designed specifically for parents of difficult, strong- willed, and challenging children. It is high-energy, interactive, and built around real situations. You will leave not just with knowledge — but with a different way of seeing your child and engaging with them.

Who this is for

This program is designed for parents who feel stuck. Parents who have tried everything and keep hitting the same wall. Parents who love their child deeply and are exhausted by how hard things have gotten.

  • Parents of children with behavioral health diagnoses

  • Parents of strong-willed or oppositional children

  • Parents navigating co-parenting challenges

  • Parents of children involved with the school discipline system

  • Parents court-referred to parenting programs

  • Foster and adoptive parents

  • Single parents without a strong support network
  • Any parent who wants better tools than the ones they currently have

You do not need to be in crisis to benefit. Some of the most engaged participants are parents who are doing reasonably well and want to do better.

What the curriculum covers

The course is structured to build progressively over 10 weeks, starting with foundational understanding and moving toward advanced application. Topics include:

Understanding your child’s behavior

Why strong-willed children behave the way they do. The difference between defiance and dysregulation. How a child’s brain development shapes their behavior — and what that means
for your response.

Communication and connection

How to communicate in ways that actually land. De-escalating conflict before it ignites. The role of connection in compliance — and why it’s not a contradiction.

Discipline that works

The difference between punishment and discipline. Consequence structures that teach rather than just penalize. How to set limits your child will actually respond to.

Emotional regulation — yours and theirs

You cannot regulate a dysregulated child from a dysregulated state. This module addresses the parent’s emotional experience directly, giving tools to manage your own response so you can
lead the interaction effectively.

Building a stronger relationship

Long-term behavioral change happens in the context of a strong parent-child relationship. This module addresses how to repair, strengthen, and protect that relationship even through the hardest seasons.

Support structure and follow-through

How to build consistency across caregivers, between home and school, and across different parenting styles. How to hold the line when it’s hard. And how to ask for help without feeling like you’ve failed.

What makes this different

The peer community is part of the program

Sitting in a room with other parents who are dealing with what you’re dealing with is itself therapeutic. The isolation lifts. The shame reduces. The energy in the room is different from anything you’ve experienced in a one-on-one setting.

The course formally builds a support group at its conclusion — so the community you develop during the 10 weeks doesn’t disappear when the course ends.

Accessible locations

We bring this program to where families already are — schools, churches, community centers, and our offices. Transportation should not be a barrier to better parenting support.

Welcoming environment

Sessions include food. Sessions include energy. This is not a sterile clinical environment. It is designed to feel accessible, warm, and worth showing up for.

| FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is there a cost to participate?2026-05-28T16:46:55-04:00

[Confirm with Cornerstone: fee structure, sliding scale, grant-funded availability.]

Do both parents need to attend?2026-05-28T16:47:15-04:00

We strongly encourage both parents or caregivers to participate when possible. Consistency across caregivers significantly improves outcomes. However, single-parent participation is common and fully effective.

What age children is this designed for?2026-05-28T16:47:33-04:00

[Confirm with Cornerstone: target age range. Program was originally described as focused on ‘difficult and challenging children.’ Confirm whether there is an age band.]

I was court-ordered to attend a parenting program. Does this qualify?2026-05-28T16:47:52-04:00

[Confirm with Cornerstone: whether this program satisfies court-ordered parenting education requirements and what documentation is provided.]

What if I can’t make it to every session?2026-05-28T16:48:12-04:00

We ask that participants commit to attending all 10 sessions. Each session builds on the last. If you must miss a session, contact us in advance. [Confirm makeup policy with Cornerstone.]

Can this be offered at my church or school?2026-05-28T16:48:31-04:00

Yes. We bring this program to community locations. Contact us to discuss hosting a cohort at your organization.
